The Public Security Police (PSP) announced on Friday that a 17-year-old student has been detained near his school in Marinha Grande on suspicion of drug trafficking. The operation was initiated after multiple alerts were received from the school community, prompting the PSP to reinforce and direct preventive patrols around educational establishments in the area.

During these activities on Monday, officers detected a group of individuals consuming narcotic substances in public spaces. Upon approaching and identifying the group, two 17-year-old residents of Marinha Grande were singled out. One of the minors was found in possession of 1.32 grams of hashish, while the other held 11.88 grams of the same substance distributed across six small bags.

The individual with the larger quantity was arrested in flagrante delicto and constituted as a suspect. The facts have been communicated to judicial authorities, and the case is currently proceeding at the Investigation and Criminal Action Department in Marinha Grande. A PSP source confirmed to the Lusa agency that the detained suspect is a student at the school where the incident occurred.

In an official statement, the Leiria District Command of the PSP emphasized the importance of collaboration between security forces, schools, families, and the local community to identify and prevent situations that could compromise the safety and well-being of young people. The police noted that alerts transmitted by citizens and institutions through official channels are vital for orienting police action and enabling a faster, more targeted response to reported situations.
