Geoff and Delwyn Ballantyne, a couple from Alexandra Hills in Australia, returned from a coffee break to find a peacock in their bathroom. At first, they thought someone had broken into their home. Instead, they discovered the bird looking at itself in the mirror.
The peacock had apparently entered through the garage. The couple tried to lure it away from the mirror with water and savoury biscuits, but it stayed put. Wildlife rescuers were called and eventually got the bird off the sink by covering its head with a towel. The peacock is now reportedly back with its owner.
Darryl Jones, a bird expert and author of “Wild Neighbours,” told The Guardian that peacocks typically attack their reflections because they mistake them for rivals. This bird, he suggested, may simply have been lonely.
