ADM has opened a new trading office in Nairobi, Kenya, to strengthen its ability to connect customers across East Africa with the company’s global supply chain network.
The company described Kenya as a major regional trading hub for ingredients used in human and animal nutrition, as well as a gateway to East Africa. The Nairobi office will focus on commercial activities including market intelligence, local merchandising, and storage and distribution capabilities.
Through the new unit, regional demand will be linked to ADM’s global network covering origination, transportation, logistics, and risk management.
Patrick Heijbroek, ADM’s vice president of Global Trade and head of origination for the EMEA region, said East Africa is home to more than 500 million people and is a rapidly growing market with increasing demand for quality ingredients and supply chain solutions. He said the company was seeking to strengthen its presence in a region experiencing significant growth in agriculture and livestock.
ADM already operates other facilities in Africa, including human nutrition innovation laboratories in Nairobi, a distribution center in the Lagos Free Zone in Nigeria, and a facility in Johannesburg, South Africa, focused on expanding flavor creation capabilities.
