Amancio Ortega, Sandra Ortega and Mercadona chairman Juan Roig lead Forbes Spain’s latest ranking of the country’s 100 richest people. Their combined fortunes head a list whose total wealth climbed to a record €300.53 billion, an increase of 16.1% on the previous year.

The report attributes the rise to stock-market performance, economic growth, higher asset valuations and improved income and profits. Amancio Ortega, Inditex’s founder, remains at the top for more than a decade running. His fortune rose 13.9% from 2025 to €125.2 billion, equivalent to 41.7% of the wealth counted in the ranking.

Sandra Ortega remains second, with €11.5 billion, and is Spain’s richest woman. Roig ranks third with €9.8 billion. Abanca chairman Juan Carlos Escotet follows with €8.1 billion, while Ferrovial chairman Rafael del Pino rounds out the top five with €7.8 billion.

Women hold 26% of the positions in this year’s ranking, and their combined wealth totals €64.779 billion, 14% more than last year. Hortensia Herrero, Mercadona’s vice-chairwoman, is sixth overall and second among women, with €5.55 billion.

The average age of those on the list is 70. The report says Spain is approaching a major succession of corporate inheritances, but expects economic power to remain largely within existing family groups rather than move to different sectors or owners through the open market.

Several people make their first appearance in the ranking. Fernando Masaveu and his family enter at number 30 with €1.7 billion. José Manuel Cortizo ranks 76th with €750 million, while Grupo Cox’s Enrique Riquelme is 90th with €620 million and, at 37, is the youngest person on the list. Banco Santander chair Ana Botín debuts at number 97 with €550 million.

Madrid has the most fortunes on the list, with 33 worth a combined €54.6 billion. Catalonia follows with 26 fortunes totaling €33.04 billion. Galicia, however, has the highest combined wealth: €147.05 billion across five fortunes, largely due to Inditex, according to the report.

Forbes Spain says its analysis considers more than personal wealth, including the market value of companies, property and luxury assets, and available liquidity.
