Democrat Annie Andrews has won the U.S. Senate race in South Carolina, defeating Darline Graham and flipping a second seat to the Democrats, according to NBC projections.
Andrews, a 45-year-old pediatrician, centered her campaign on access to affordable health care and fighting corruption in Washington. Graham, 62, was appointed after the death of longtime Senator Lindsey Graham and received strong campaign support from Donald Trump.
The race presented a challenge for Andrews in a state that has not elected a Democrat to the Senate since 1998. In 2024, the president won South Carolina by an 18-point margin. Andrews questioned Graham’s lack of experience, but the contest proved closer than expected.
