Anthony Gordon believes he has made a positive start to life at Barcelona, but says he still has room to improve. The English winger rates his first three months at the club at between seven and 7.5 out of 10 after arriving from Newcastle this summer for €70 million.

Gordon has scored three goals and provided five assists so far. Ahead of Tuesday’s match against Aston Villa, a side he knows from his time in English football, he said he must be more decisive in attack. He acknowledged that he sometimes passes when he should shoot or dribble, and added that he could be more selfish in front of goal.

The forward said his personal target is to score or assist in every match and to influence the course of games. He also described the pressure at Barcelona as different from that at his previous clubs, where the focus was often on avoiding relegation or qualifying for the Champions League. At Barcelona, he said, the expectation is to win as many trophies as possible.

Gordon praised the welcome he and his family have received in Barcelona, highlighting his connection with the supporters at Spotify Camp Nou. He said the affection shown by the fans motivates him to give more to the club and that he hopes to repay their support with titles.

He also mentioned Eric Garcia as one of the teammates helping him adapt, while describing the squad as young and welcoming. Regarding competition for the left wing with Karim Adeyemi, Gordon said he focuses on competing with himself rather than comparing his performances with those of another player.

The Englishman has started two of Barcelona’s three European matches this season and seven league games. Adeyemi has started four league matches and one in the Champions League.

Gordon also defended Barcelona after recent defeats against Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain. He said the opponents were not superior, although the team had to accept responsibility for both losses. Reflecting on the clásico, he felt Barcelona had possession and better chances but lacked something needed to secure victory.

Away from football, Gordon said reading, meditation and walking help him disconnect from the constant stimulation of social media. He explained that he reads fiction and books on different subjects, using them to relax, reflect and stay focused on what matters.
