Around 80 tents remained in Lisbon’s D. Pedro IV Square, also known as Rossio, on Wednesday morning as part of protests over housing. The tents were put back up on Tuesday night following a decision by protesters at a popular assembly. Authorities maintained a discreet presence, according to CNN, cited by Observador.

In Porto, about 20 tents remained in D. João I Square after protesters also spent the night there. Some demonstrators told Observador they felt the prime minister had shown “little courage” after he announced on Tuesday evening that he would meet the leaders of Chega and the Socialist Party to discuss housing proposals.

On Monday, a court ruled that protester Renata Cambra, leader of the Workers United party, could keep her tent in Rossio as a form of protest until November 24. The Public Security Police said it would comply with the ruling, adding that its recent actions had already been consistent with the court’s decision.
