At least 24 people have been killed in a Russian air raid targeting the Zaporizhzhia region of Ukraine, according to official reports. The attack occurred at a school in the village of Komyschuvakha, which was being utilized as a distribution center for humanitarian aid. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed the incident on social media, stating that the strike took place while civilians were receiving assistance.
Civil protection authorities indicated that at least five individuals were injured in the assault, with rescue teams currently searching through the rubble for additional victims. Mykhailo Semikin, the regional military administrator, announced via Telegram that 27 people remain missing following the incident.
President Zelenskyy accused Moscow of conducting a deliberate bombardment, asserting that Russian forces could not have been unaware that residents in Komyschuvakha gathered weekly at this specific location for aid. He reported that ten guided bombs struck the area, hitting both the school building and an adjacent emergency shelter. One bomb reportedly detonated directly inside an air raid shelter.
Zelenskyy described the event as further evidence that Russia does not seek de-escalation, noting that the attack sent a signal contrary to any potential peace following the humanitarian ceasefire in Oleshky. He characterized the incident as a continuation of killings and called for a strong and hard global reaction. The village is located approximately 25 kilometers east of Zaporizhzhia city and roughly a dozen kilometers from the front line.
The Zaporizhzhia region has been subjected to repeated heavy Russian attacks over recent months. In mid-October, a separate strike on the city of Zaporizhzhia resulted in 23 deaths, including four minors, while storage facilities in the area have also been frequently bombed.
