Two passenger aircraft bound for Warsaw received bomb threats on Tuesday, prompting security inspections at both airports serving the Polish capital. Modlin temporarily closed while authorities investigated; Chopin continued operating normally.

A LOT Boeing 737 MAX flying from London was diverted to Modlin, about 36 kilometres from central Warsaw. The first alert was reported at 9:54 a.m. local time, and the plane landed seven minutes later. The airport said all 181 people on board were evacuated.

Modlin said it would remain closed until further notice as security teams assessed the threat and worked to protect people at the airport. LOT confirmed it operated the flight.

The second alert concerned an SAS flight from Copenhagen, which landed as scheduled at Warsaw Chopin Airport. A terminal spokesperson said the aircraft was being inspected. Chopin, the capital’s main airport, kept its operations running normally.

Authorities had not confirmed whether either threat involved real explosives.
