Economists surveyed by Brazil’s Central Bank now expect the Selic rate to end 2026 at 13.50%, according to the Focus bulletin published on Tuesday. The previous survey had forecast a rate of 13.25% at year-end.

The higher projection indicates that market economists see less scope for interest rate cuts this year. Forecasts for the Selic were also raised for the following years, through 2029.

The report was released as the Central Bank’s Monetary Policy Committee began its meeting on the Selic. The bank is due to announce its decision on Wednesday.
