British adventurer Karl Bushby returned to his mother’s home in Hull on Monday, November 2, bringing a 28-year journey around the world to an end. The 57-year-old covered 50,000 kilometres after setting out from Punta Arenas, Chile, in November 1998.

A former paratrooper, Bushby had aimed to reach his mother’s doorstep without using conventional transport. After completing the final leg through northeastern England, he reunited with his mother, Angela, and returned to a family he had been away from for nearly three decades.

Bushby also met his 36-year-old son, Adam, and his 12-year-old granddaughter for the first time.
