Bruno Pereira Ribeiro has won the second Narrativa–Fujifilm Award with “Westernmost,” a photography project developed around the landscape of Santo Antão, Cape Verde. The award’s organisers announced the result on Tuesday, November 3.

The project explores the relationship between the island’s landscape and human intervention, using photographic storytelling to examine the contrasts and boundaries of an island territory. Ribeiro will receive €3,500, and “Westernmost” is scheduled to open as a solo exhibition at Narrativa in Lisbon in January 2027.

The jury—Yael Martinez, Ana Rocha and Mário Cruz—also awarded two honourable mentions. Tatiana Iartseva received one for “Secret Garden,” which uses self-portraiture and handmade printing with natural materials to explore identity, the body and human experiences that are often suppressed or rejected. David Henriques was recognised for “Parque,” a project about tourism’s impact on the Algarve, seen through a condominium where he lives and whose history is connected to his family across generations.

The two honourable-mention projects will also be presented at a public event at Narrativa, though dates have not yet been announced. The selected projects were chosen from 175 submissions and represent a range of approaches, including social essays, documentary photography and personal research.

Open to photographers aged 18 and over, the award recognises unpublished contemporary photography projects by artists at different stages of their careers. Narrativa is a nonprofit cultural association founded in Lisbon in 2022, with a gallery, studio and free-access library.
