The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) will not publish the VAR audio from Palmeiras’ 1-0 win over Vasco in the first leg of their Copa do Brasil semifinal on Sunday. The decision concerns a possible penalty for Vasco that was not awarded during the match at Nubank Parque.
The CBF’s Refereeing Committee said it would follow the procedure used in similar situations. Because the incident was not reviewed in the VAR booth and referee Anderson Daronco allowed play to continue, the communication between the officials will not be released publicly.
Vasco may nevertheless ask to hear the exchange between the on-field referees and the VAR booth. The club could access the audio, but the CBF would not publish it.
The incident prompted complaints from Vasco, who also questioned the second yellow card Daronco gave defender Saldívia, resulting in his dismissal. Former referee Paulo César de Oliveira, a Globo TV refereeing analyst, said the possible penalty should have been awarded.
Palmeiras will reach the final with a draw in the return leg, scheduled for next Sunday at São Januário. Vasco must win by one goal to take the tie to a penalty shootout; a victory by two or more goals would send the Rio de Janeiro side through.
