Cooking gas prices in Bahia will rise starting Sunday, 1 November, after Acelen announced a 17.5% increase in the price of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) sold to distributors. Robério Souza, president of the Bahia State Cooking Gas Resellers' Union (Sinrevgas), confirmed the adjustment and said it is expected to add between R$12 and R$15 to the price of a cylinder for the final consumer.
According to Souza, this is the largest increase recorded since Acelen took over operation of the Mataripe Refinery in December 2021. He said the adjustment will have a direct impact across the distribution and sales chain, meaning consumers are likely to notice the higher price in their next purchases.
In a statement, Acelen said the price of LPG sold by the Mataripe Refinery to distributors rose from R$3,971.60 per tonne to R$4,664.90 per tonne. The company said its pricing policy follows market criteria and takes into account factors such as international oil prices, exchange-rate changes and freight costs. According to Acelen, prices may move up or down depending on those variables.
Sinrevgas data indicates this is the seventh adjustment in 2026. The year has seen a series of increases and reductions: a 2.38% rise in January, a 4.19% decline in February and stability in March. In April, prices rose 15.2%, followed by a 4.3% increase in May, which the union said was absorbed by resellers without being fully passed on to consumers.
In June, the product rose again, by 9.59%. That was followed by reductions of 6.8% in July and 7.1% in August. In October, the sector faced another adjustment of about 9%. The 17.5% increase announced for November is larger than the other variations recorded since the start of the year.
