A 28-year-old Iraqi national must leave Germany following a ruling by the Düsseldorf Administrative Court, which upheld his expulsion order and rejected his legal challenge against deportation to Iraq. The court determined that the measure is justified due to the risk of reoffending and the need for deterrence. The man was previously sentenced to nine and a half years of juvenile detention for the murder of his mother, Hanaa S., an act the court described as an attempt to restore so-called family honor.

According to the judicial decision, the defendant continues to pose a danger to public safety and order because he has not sufficiently confronted his crime or distanced himself from his conservative Yazidi family. The court also dismissed arguments regarding his Crohn's disease, stating that medical treatment is available in Iraq, potentially with support from relatives in Germany. While the ruling stands, an application for leave to appeal can still be filed with the Higher Administrative Court of North Rhine-Westphalia.

The murder occurred eleven years ago when the perpetrator was 17 years old. Hanaa S., a 35-year-old mother of six who had fled to a women's shelter in 2014, was killed by her son, her husband, and two of her husband's brothers. The court noted that the crime, driven by a fundamentally misunderstood concept of honor, contradicts the German constitution and represents a profound failure of integration. The victim's body remained missing for a long time until a family member partially confessed during the trial, leading authorities to discover her remains buried two meters deep in a forest near Bruchsal in Baden-Württemberg.

Witnesses testified that Hanaa S., who had been forced into marriage as a minor and frequently physically abused by her husband, was rolled up in a carpet before being killed. Her body was found tightly bound with a strap around her neck. The Mettmann district had issued the expulsion order in January after the man completed his prison sentence, citing that he still lives in an environment shaped by socially harmful values and remains neither economically nor socially integrated.
