Supermarkets across several European nations are facing significant disruptions after their refrigeration systems were hit by a suspected cyberattack. The incident has left fridges and freezers operating at dangerously high temperatures, forcing some stores to close off these units to prevent further food spoilage.

Reports indicate that the attack occurred overnight between Sunday and Monday, affecting retail locations in Belgium, Sweden, the Netherlands, Estonia, Luxembourg, and Ireland. Authorities estimate that hundreds of thousands of euros worth of food may have been compromised by the temperature fluctuations.

In Belgium, the impact has been particularly visible, with dozens of stores from major chains including Delhaize, Carrefour, and Intermarché reporting issues. Additionally, an IKEA store located near Mons was also affected by the incident. While Belgium's Centre for Cybersecurity has confirmed its awareness of the attack targeting supermarket refrigeration systems, the agency has not yet released further details regarding the scope or origin of the breach.
