David Lisnard has promised to form a compact “commando government” if elected president of France in 2027, saying it would focus on launching the major economic reforms he is proposing. Speaking on BFMTV on Tuesday, the Cannes mayor also said he would call an extraordinary parliamentary session in summer 2027.

Lisnard said ministers would be replaced if the required steps had not been initiated within 200 days. He also proposed a moratorium on what he called “stupid regulations” and said his plans included cutting state spending by €200 billion to €300 billion, with €80 billion in savings during the first year.

Lisnard, who describes himself as a liberal, has called for a primary of the right and centre. He said on BFMTV that fellow Republican Bruno Retailleau was the candidate he felt closest to, while noting that Retailleau had served in governments under Emmanuel Macron—a difference between them.
