Explosion at Auto Workshop in Pombal Leaves Four Seriously Injured

An explosion at an automobile workshop in Albergaria dos Doze, within the municipality of Pombal, caused four people to suffer serious injuries on Tuesday. Sources from the Civil Protection and the Republican National Guard (GNR) confirmed the severity of the accident to Lusa.

According to the Sub-regional Emergency and Civil Protection Command of Leiria, the incident required the deployment of two air assets from the National Institute of Medical Emergency (INEM). A total of 35 operational personnel were engaged in rescue efforts, supported by 12 vehicles from the fire department, INEM, and the GNR.

A source from the GNR specified to Lusa that the explosion took place inside a paint booth at a body shop. The resulting fire remained contained within the specific location of the blast. In addition to the four individuals with serious injuries, authorities reported one person sustained minor injuries.
