The 38th Festival Internacional de Música do Pará (Fimupa) is running in Belém from November 2 to 8, with free concerts at Theatro da Paz, Sala Ettore Bosio and Sala Vicente Salles at the Memorial dos Povos. This year’s theme, “Symphonies of our paraensismo,” celebrates local identity and music, with a focus on performers from Pará and groups associated with the Carlos Gomes State Institute (IECG).
On November 4 at 8 p.m., conductor Daniel Rodrigues Lima will lead the Theatro da Paz Symphony Orchestra, with pianist Ariel Lima as soloist. The program features Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 5, known as the “Emperor.”
The Amazônia Jazz Band will perform “Belém-Pará-Brasil – A Celebration of Brazilian and Amazonian Music” at Theatro da Paz on November 6 at 6 p.m. Later that day, at 6:30 p.m., Sala Vicente Salles will host an accessible recital coordinated by Libras (Brazilian Sign Language) teacher Silvio Santiago, with interpreters on stage alongside the musicians.
The festival closes on November 8 at 8 p.m. at Theatro da Paz. Miguel Campos Neto will conduct the Fimupa Symphony Orchestra, made up of students and guest musicians.
Tickets for Theatro da Paz performances are available at the venue’s box office from 9 a.m. on the day of each event. Each person may collect up to two tickets by donating one kilogram of non-perishable food, which must be handed in on the day of the chosen performance. For the Amazônia Jazz Band concert, ticket distribution starts at 4 p.m. on November 6, with the same limit of two per person.
Admission to Sala Ettore Bosio and Sala Vicente Salles is free, subject to each venue’s capacity. Donations collected at the festival will go to Abrigo São Vicente de Paulo, a care home for older people in the Pedreira neighborhood.
