Aerial images showed flooded roads, neighbourhoods and fields across the southwestern United States on Monday, 2 November, after days of heavy rain triggered flash floods. The flooding affected communities in Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico and Utah, where the states meet in the Four Corners region.
In Arboles, Colorado, floodwaters swept away cars, motorhomes and homes. In Camp Verde, Arizona, residents at an RV park rushed to safety as water levels rose. Hundreds of people were forced to evacuate, and rescue teams carried out dozens of operations, including helicopter rescues.
At least one person died, while police said they suspected a second death was linked to the flooding. In Durango, Colorado, about 200 residents helped clear mud and debris from homes and streets on Monday.
The San Juan River rose to 16.81 feet (5.1 metres), flooding parts of Durango before its level began to fall. The rainfall also provided some relief to reservoirs in a region experiencing a prolonged drought.
