France will increase the maximum amount savers can deposit in a Livret A account in February, Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu announced Tuesday. The new cap will be set between €25,000 and €30,000, up from the current limit of €22,900.

Lecornu said the change would take effect alongside an update to the account’s interest rate, which he said would also increase. Finance Minister Roland Lescure is expected to confirm the new ceiling in the coming weeks, after a final consultation with banks and the Caisse des dépôts.

The announcement came during a government questions session in the National Assembly, in response to Christophe Naegelen, leader of the Liot parliamentary group, who had called for a major national loan.
