The first phase of Fuvest 2027, the University of São Paulo (USP) entrance exam, recorded the lowest abstention rate in the exam's history, with 6.4% of registered candidates not appearing at test sites, according to USP Secretary-General Gustavo Ferraz de Campos Monaco.

Monaco said the exam saw a 5% decrease in the number of candidates compared with the previous year, but that in absolute numbers more people were present to take the test than in prior years. In the state of São Paulo, the abstention rate was 7.2%, while Fortaleza had the highest rate among cities, at 9%.

Disruptions on São Paulo's metropolitan train lines 11-Coral and 7-Rubi delayed candidates, who arrived about five minutes after the gates closed. Monaco said there was a problem in Mogi das Cruzes due to an incident on the Coral line and that candidates arrived between five and six minutes after the gates closed. He said the rules do not allow test sites to be reopened under any circumstances and that there will be no reapplication of the exams.

In Ribeirão Preto, Monaco reported that some candidates needed medical attention and were taken to hospitals because of intestinal discomfort. He said there were cases of medical care and hospital referrals due to vomiting crises, that the number was quite high compared with previous years, and that the cases were concentrated in Ribeirão Preto. He added that he did not know whether the cases were caused by food or water infections because they were recorded at specific locations.
