A proposed fuel price cap in Germany could fail to protect motorists from higher costs at the turn of the year. The measure was commissioned by Minister Katherina Reiche, but its requirements are reportedly so lenient that fuel stations could continue charging prices well above the European Union average.
The draft legislation may therefore provide little effective restraint on fuel prices. If the cap does not take effect in practice, drivers could face a significant price increase around the New Year.
The available information does not indicate that the proposed mechanism has already been implemented or that it would impose a strict limit on prices at petrol stations.
