Gretchen said the wig that fell during her performance at the Rock The Mountain festival was expected to come off, although it happened earlier than planned. The incident occurred on Sunday while she was dancing to “Chorando Se Foi” with one of her dancers.
Rather than ending the performance, the singer paused to talk about her experience with alopecia, a condition that causes significant hair loss. In a video posted on Instagram the following morning, she explained that medical recommendations meant the wig had to be worn more loosely than usual.
Gretchen said she had planned to remove the wig during “Believe,” a song featuring choreography that involved repeatedly moving her head. She had even asked her makeup artist to stay nearby because she expected the accessory to come off during that part of the show. Instead, it fell several songs earlier.
During the interruption, she shared a message of support for people living with alopecia. Gretchen said beauty and personal strength are not defined by hair, whether someone has no hair, wears it short or is bald.
She also spoke about an experience she came to appreciate after treatment: being able to shower and feel the water directly on her scalp. According to the report, her condition was worsened by a chemical haircut treatment and scalp micropigmentation. She sought the procedure to disguise hair loss, but it did not produce the desired result and further affected areas impacted by alopecia.
The condition also affects other public figures mentioned in the report, including Xuxa Meneghel, Maiara, Jada Smith and Deborah Secco.
