Prince Harry and Meghan Markle reportedly intend to keep their Montecito, California, home even as they plan to return to the United Kingdom with their children, Archie and Lilibet. The couple bought the property in June 2020 for $14.65 million and lived there after leaving the royal family.

The 1,672-square-metre estate has nine bedrooms and 16 bathrooms. Its estimated current value is around $16.73 million, but real estate agents cited in the report say its location and history as the home of former members of the British royal family could attract offers of $50 million to $60 million from collectors. Despite that potential, Harry and Meghan are not said to be planning a sale.

Keeping the property comes with substantial costs. The annual property tax was just over $152,000 in 2025, while estimated monthly payments on a $9.52 million adjustable-rate mortgage range from $40,000 to $43,000. Experts estimate that maintenance, security and household bills bring the overall cost to about $650,000 a year.

The grounds include gardens and ocean views, as well as a library, office, spa, gym, games room, arcade, theater, swimming pool and wine cellar. A separate guesthouse has two bedrooms and two bathrooms. The report says the couple may retain the estate as a retreat in the United States, despite the expense and their plans to live in the UK.
