In Lisbon, a solitary tent was present in the Rossio Square on Tuesday morning, coinciding with the day planned for the assembly of the local Christmas market. This situation follows a decision allowing Renata Cambra to maintain her tent as a form of protest until November 24. Carlos Moedas, president of the Lisbon City Council, stated that reconciling this protest with the execution of the Christmas market would be difficult. During the night, demonstrators approved a new overnight stay for Tuesday through a popular assembly.
Meanwhile, in Porto, approximately 14 tents remained in Praça D. João I on Tuesday morning after police allowed them to stay throughout the night without intervention. This decision came after protesters voted in a popular assembly to maintain the tents in the square. Of the total structures present, 13 were set up after 00:30. The Acampada do Porto movement has also reported allegations of plainclothes police identifying and detaining demonstrators leaving the square to identify individuals via photographs at the police station. Lawyer Ricardo Salazar, who provides legal support to the movement, highlighted that similar identification tactics are reportedly occurring in hospitals where people seek treatment.
The Acampada do Porto movement has presented four demands to the Porto City Council executive, intending to discuss them with Mayor Pedro Duarte. Their primary request is that all municipal housing be rent-supported based on income levels. Additionally, they call for urban mechanisms to force the use of vacant buildings and the prohibition or revocation of licenses for local accommodation. The group questions why rehabilitated houses funded by the Resilience and Recovery Plan are not managed by Domus Social.
