The Israel Defense Forces announced the end of a counterterrorism operation in Hebron that began after the October 23 attack in which two soldiers were killed and three were wounded.
Following the attack, the military carried out a targeted operation in the Hamula neighborhood, described as being inhabited by Hamas affiliates. The campaign included hundreds of searches, arrests and interrogations of dozens of suspects.
The IDF also demolished the homes of the two men identified as having carried out the attack and reported finding military equipment.
Last week, IDF Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Eyal Zamir told Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that there were no operational reasons to continue the Hebron operation. He also said there was no legal basis for preventing Palestinians from returning to their homes.
