Jack Lowden has responded to reports linking him to the role of James Bond, saying he feels flattered by the attention but does not want to fuel the speculation. The 36-year-old actor discussed the possibility in an interview with GQ published on Monday.
Variety recently identified Lowden and Callum Turner as the leading candidates to succeed Daniel Craig, who ended his run as the British secret agent in 2021. Lowden said it was pleasant to be mentioned, particularly by Gary Oldman, his co-star on Slow Horses, but insisted that he does not follow the rumors closely.
The actor also said that younger performers are often associated with Bond when they move away from more comedic or artistic roles and appear in a suit. Lowden became linked to the part after Oldman suggested that he was among the finalists. Lowden’s wife, Saoirse Ronan, later said that the subject was not being discussed at home.
The next Bond actor has not yet been confirmed. The production has announced that Denis Villeneuve will direct the new film financed by Amazon MGM, while casting director Nina Gold remains in charge of the audition process. There is no announced date for the protagonist’s reveal, although industry insiders expect the decision to be confirmed this year.
Craig played Bond for around 15 years, with his final film, No Time to Die, released in 2021. The 26th installment in the franchise is currently expected to reach theaters in 2028.
