A jaguar known as Ibaca passed away last Saturday, November 31, following its rescue in a severely weakened state within the Pantanal region of Mato Grosso. This area is recognized globally as a natural heritage site and a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO.

According to biologist and tour guide Marcos Ardevino, who spoke to CNN Brasil, an autopsy is currently underway to determine the possible cause of death. Reports indicate that the animal was rescued on Friday, November 30, just one day before it died.

Ardevino noted that the specific location where Ibaca was found is considered relatively preserved and does not feature jaguar hunting activities. While he suggested a natural cause as a possibility, he emphasized that the exact reason for the death remains unexplained pending further investigation.
