Ben Shelton, the world No. 4, will add Juan Carlos Ferrero to his coaching team for the 2027 ATP season, the Ferrero Tennis Academy announced. Ferrero, a former world No. 1 and the 2003 Roland Garros champion, will work alongside Shelton's father and coach, Bryan Shelton, who will remain part of the player's technical structure.

The move is presented as a new step for Shelton, 24, as he seeks to consolidate his place among the leading players on the ATP circuit and add to a record that includes seven titles and one Grand Slam final. Shelton played in the final of the last US Open.

Ferrero reached No. 1 in 2003 after winning Roland Garros that year and has built a strong coaching reputation. His work with Carlos Alcaraz included accompanying the Spaniard during his rise to world No. 1 and several Grand Slam title wins. Ferrero, who is from Ontinyent in Valencia, will join a structure that continues to rely on Bryan Shelton, the player's father and the person responsible for his training and sporting development.

Shelton said: “Juan Carlos is one of the great minds in tennis. His experience winning at the highest level and forming champions will be an enormous added value for our team.” He also stressed the importance of his father in his career and expressed satisfaction at starting the new stage with both coaches.

Ferrero said: “Ben has extraordinary talent, power and character. I am very happy to join Bryan and the team in this new and exciting chapter.” He added that he expects to contribute his experience and work jointly with the team to help Shelton reach his goals in the major tournaments.

The collaboration is due to begin in the 2027 season, combining the continuity of Bryan Shelton's work with Ferrero's experience in developing elite players.
