The scenes at the United States Grand Prix could have provided a fitting setting for Andrea Kimi Antonelli’s first Formula 1 world title. A victory would have seen him cross the finish line first and immediately take advantage of his opportunity to secure the championship. Instead, the result kept the fight open after his strongest rivals collected enough points to remain in contention.

Antonelli then faced another setback before the race in Mexico, when he contracted a viral infection and had to take a break. He was officially signed off sick, in circumstances compared with those of an office worker.

Despite the obstacles, Antonelli has emerged as Formula 1’s youngest world champion. His success has drawn attention not only to his ability in the car but also to his empathetic and personable character, suggesting that this first title could be the beginning of a longer chapter in his career.
