Leaked internal documents from Germany’s Alternative for Germany (AfD) show how the party’s attitude toward Björn Höcke has changed. Senior AfD figures previously used private messages to sharply criticize Höcke, with some expressing strong opposition to his political influence.
Alice Weidel was also reportedly among those who wanted to prevent Höcke from advancing within the party. The documents include hostile assessments of him, including one message in which an AfD figure wrote that the situation was so intolerable they could “really vomit.”
Weidel’s current position is markedly different. She now describes Höcke as a “very, very good politician,” according to the report. The contrast between her earlier criticism and her present praise is presented as evidence of the AfD’s broader rightward shift.
