A business jet with nine people aboard crashed in a Florida neighborhood on Sunday, producing a large fireball, federal officials said.
The Learjet 60 went down in a residential area of Palm Beach county, according to officials. The Federal Aviation Administration said in a statement that the Bahamas-bound jet had departed from Austin-Bergstrom International Airport in Texas.
It was not immediately clear whether anyone on the ground was hurt, and there were no details yet on whether anyone onboard survived.
Video of the crash showed the aircraft nose-diving before erupting into a giant ball of flames near a major roadway and close to passing vehicles. The impact left a large crater in the pavement, with flames rising near a utility pole.
Footage showed chunks of pavement on fire as people gathered, expressing shock that the crash came so close to homes. Black smoke billowed from the hole and drifted past palm trees on a stormy day.
