A 45-year-old woman has died after suffering a stab wound in Santa Rita Street, in Murcia’s La Fama district. Spain’s National Police have arrested a man as the suspected perpetrator, according to the force.
The incident occurred on Monday at around 9:34 a.m., after a local resident alerted emergency services upon hearing shouting from an argument in the street. Emergency staff from the Murcian Health Service attended the scene but could only confirm the woman’s death.
Police investigators have ruled out linking the death to a suspected case of gender-based violence, according to sources from the Government Delegation in the Region of Murcia. Officers from the Homicide Group of the Provincial Judicial Police Brigade reached that conclusion after their initial inquiries into the arrested man.
The area was cordoned off while officers gathered evidence. Investigators have not ruled out a possible connection between the motive and drug use, while the relationship between the suspect and the victim remains under investigation.
The suspect was located and arrested after allegedly fleeing the scene. He remains in police custody pending his appearance before a judge.
