A 67-year-old man was arrested in Brasilândia, in Brazil’s Mato Grosso do Sul state, on Tuesday, November 3, after a complaint alleging animal abuse. Police also found a loaded .38-caliber revolver showing signs of modification, along with ammunition, at his home, according to the report.
The investigation began after the Brasilandense Environmental Protection Association alerted police to claims that the man was killing birds and poisoning cats and dogs in the neighborhood. The complaint also said that a parakeet had been shot with an air rifle allegedly fired by the suspect on Tuesday.
The bird was rescued and taken to the Environmental Military Police in Três Lagoas for treatment. During searches at the residence, officers found an air rifle as well as the revolver and ammunition.
The man was taken to the Brasilândia Police Station and booked on suspicion of illegal firearm possession. Police said the animal-abuse allegations remain under investigation.
