The Civil Police of Rio de Janeiro detained a man early Monday morning for allegedly attempting to murder his partner in the Rio das Pedras community in the city's West Zone. Anderson Barbosa Alencar is accused of shooting Anabella Silva Cardoso, 18, in the head inside their residence on Sunday night.

The victim was transported in critical condition to the Municipal Souza Aguiar Hospital. Medical reports indicate she is suspected of suffering brain death, with confirmation protocols currently underway. Agents from the Special Crime Scene Group (GELC) located the suspect and transferred him to the Capital Homicide Department.

According to police records, Alencar initially claimed the shooting was accidental while he was handling a pistol inside the home, stating that he dropped the weapon and attempted to assist his partner after she was hit. However, investigators identified inconsistencies in his testimony during their inquiry.

Police searched the property but did not find the firearm at the location indicated by the suspect. Instead, officers discovered the weapon hidden on the building's slab among bricks and tiles. The gun was inside a bag that also contained a revolver, ammunition, and magazines, including an extended magazine.

Based on these findings, agents from the Capital Homicide Department arrested Alencar in flagrante delicto for attempted feminicide and illegal possession of a firearm intended for permitted use. Authorities have also requested his preventive detention. The Civil Police noted that the classification as attempted feminicide is provisional due to the victim's extremely serious clinical condition. If her death is confirmed, the crime may be reclassified as consummated feminicide. The investigation remains ongoing.
