A 40-year-old man was rescued on Monday, November 2, after suffering an accident while hiking on a trail along Estrada do Pinheirinho in Itu, São Paulo. The incident required an aerial rescue operation because the location was inaccessible for standard ground-based emergency teams.
The Sorocaba Aviation Base deployed a team from the Águia 22 helicopter unit after being activated by the 15th Fire Brigade Group. Upon arriving at the provided coordinates, the crew located the victim, who had been rendered unable to move following the accident.
Aerotactical operators disembarked from the aircraft to assist in the extraction. The man was lifted directly from the ground into the helicopter using the McGuire technique. Once airborne, he was transported to a dirt road in the region where other rescue teams were waiting to take over his care.
