Michael Douglas has expressed a strong desire to share the screen once more with his longtime colleague Jack Nicholson, acknowledging that the legendary actor is currently content with a life away from Hollywood. During a promotional event for his memoirs, "One Helluva Ride," in Swansea, Wales, the 82-year-old Oscar winner addressed questions regarding Nicholson's absence from the industry.

Douglas told The Independent and Variety that while he would have loved to work with Nicholson again, the 89-year-old has effectively stepped away from filmmaking. According to Douglas, Nicholson is doing well and has simply disappeared from the public eye to enjoy his home life. He described the three-time Oscar winner as someone who is now walking around in his slippers at home, a retirement he believes Nicholson has earned.

Although Nicholson never officially announced the end of his career, his last film appearance was in 2010 with the romantic comedy "How Do You Know." Since then, sightings of the actor have been rare. Douglas confirmed that he still sees Nicholson occasionally and is not concerned about his well-being. Public appearances by Nicholson have been sporadic but notable; he was spotted at a Los Angeles Lakers basketball game in 2023, shared a photo with his daughter Lorraine on Instagram in early 2025, and made an appearance at the 50th anniversary of "Saturday Night Live" shortly thereafter.

In contrast to Nicholson's quiet exit, Douglas remains active in promoting his new book. The memoir reveals personal details, including a past affair with his former co-star Kathleen Turner. Additionally, Douglas mentioned ongoing challenges with Marvel Studios regarding his role, noting that after agreeing to one green-screen project out of curiosity, the studio has not yet allowed him the on-screen death he originally requested.
