Michigan Representative Haley Stevens has endorsed Republican Senate candidate Mike Rogers, two days before the election. Stevens had lost the Democratic primary to Abdul El-Sayed, who is now running against Rogers for the seat.
The endorsement drew attention because Michigan is among the contests that could determine control of the Senate. Stevens announced her decision on Sunday afternoon, according to the report.
The Democratic primary had divided voters between Stevens, described as a centrist, and El-Sayed, a physician with a more left-wing platform. Their sharpest disagreement concerned US support for Israel. Stevens had backing from AIPAC, which spent more than $30 million on her campaign, while El-Sayed became one of Israel’s most outspoken critics.
