Nine people died Sunday, Nov. 1, when a small private plane crashed in Florida, US Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy announced on X. Duffy said all nine people aboard the aircraft were killed and described the crash as a terrible tragedy.

The aircraft was a Learjet 60 business jet that had departed from Texas and was heading to the Bahamas, according to Duffy. It crashed at 12:50 p.m. local time (6:50 p.m. in Paris) in Palm Beach County, in a residential neighborhood. The local sheriff's office said the plane went down about 10 km as the crow flies from President Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago residence. Trump had left the residence late Sunday morning and was traveling to Iowa and Kansas for two campaign rallies ahead of the midterm elections at the time of the incident.

The Federal Aviation Administration confirmed the information and said it would conduct an investigation with the National Transportation Safety Board to shed light on the crash.
