Barack Obama said the 2026 midterm results sent a “clear message” that Americans want a politics that unites rather than divides. In a post on X the day after the November 3 election, the former president also called for leaders to provide concrete answers to people’s difficulties.

Obama praised candidates who ran across the country, including in areas where their chances appeared slim. He said they came from different backgrounds but shared a commitment to public service and putting voters first. He also thanked election workers and volunteers from both parties for helping the vote run smoothly.

With the Trump administration still set to remain in power for two years, Obama urged his political camp to get to work. He called for making changes where possible, preventing further harm and preparing for the future.
