A 33-year-old man was killed and a 32-year-old man was seriously injured in a shooting near the Cayolle district in southern Marseille on Monday evening, according to the city’s marine firefighters. They were called to the scene at around 9:20 p.m., a spokesperson said. No details about the circumstances of the shooting were immediately available.

The 33-year-old was found in cardiac arrest on Chemin de Sormiou, while the other man, who had multiple gunshot wounds, was discovered nearby on Avenue de Colgate, the spokesperson said.

La Provence reported that the victims may have been targeted while filming a rap video, and that the attackers fled. However, a police source quoted by the newspaper said investigators did not yet know whether the shooting took place during filming or afterward, or whether it was connected to the shoot.

Amine Kessaci, a deputy mayor of Marseille who campaigns against drug trafficking, said on X that the city had once again been struck by violence and called for continued efforts to ensure residents could live in safety.
