The Portuguese Government will provide an additional €15 million to support farmers and forestry operators affected by higher fuel costs, the Ministry of Agriculture and Sea announced.

The funding will cover consumption of marked and coloured diesel, for which the exceptional subsidy of 10 cents per litre will remain in place until the end of the year. The measure’s costs will be financed through the central allocation of the Ministry of Finance.

Support relating to fuel consumed in July and August will be paid in October. From that month onwards, payments will be made at the end of the second month following the month in which the fuel was consumed.

The Autonomous Regions will also receive additional support, with up to €1.25 million allocated to the Azores and €250,000 to Madeira.

Agriculture Minister José Manuel Fernandes said the Government understood the difficulties facing farmers and would not leave them alone as costs increased.
