Portugal and Peru have reinforced their collaboration in the fight against international criminal networks through the signing of a strategic port agreement. The respective Ministers of Foreign Affairs announced this development on Monday following a bilateral meeting focused on current affairs.
The accord was signed between Peru's National Port Authority and the Port of Sines prior to the start of the official meeting in Lisbon. Its primary objective is to secure the maritime infrastructure of both nations against drug trafficking, smuggling, and asset laundering.
Paulo Rangel, Portugal's Minister of State and Foreign Affairs, emphasized that the agreement aims to bolster maritime security and combat international and transnational crimes. He noted that these issues are critical concerns for coastal states that serve as entry points into the South American and European continents.
