In a move mirroring tactics used by President Donald Trump, Republican Congressman Mike Lawler has excluded Bloomberg reporters from all campaign events held at private properties. This decision comes as Lawler faces a challenging reelection bid in New York State and was communicated via email to the agency's journalists just days before the final stretch of one of the state's most competitive races.
The ban follows the publication of an article by Bloomberg Law detailing a lawsuit filed against Lawler and several consulting firms. The complaint, lodged by 12 door-to-door canvassers, alleges unfair labor practices. According to Bloomberg, the congressman's campaign did not immediately respond to requests for comment regarding the allegations.
Lawler's staff disputes the narrative presented in the report, arguing that they were given insufficient time to provide a response. Furthermore, the team denies directly employing the workers involved in the controversy, stating instead that the individuals were under the employ of an external political action committee.
