The city government of Rio das Ostras has delivered 139 TASER shock devices and 330 pepper sprays to the Municipal Civil Guard. The new equipment is intended to expand the resources available to agents when responding to incidents and risky situations, offering alternatives with lower offensive potential while prioritizing the safety of officers and the public. The municipality said proper use depends on specific training, assessment of each situation and respect for legal norms.

Training for all members of the Municipal Civil Guard is scheduled to begin next week. It will cover how the devices work, use protocols and the precautions required during approaches. The program will include theoretical and practical instruction on safety procedures and the criteria for using the equipment, with the aim of preparing officers to act responsibly and within legal limits, according to the circumstances of each incident.

Mayor Carlos Augusto Balthazar said the delivery combines new equipment, more structure and, above all, training. He stated that public security is a priority for his administration and that the goal is to have increasingly prepared professionals with better working conditions to protect the population. Carlos Menegasi, secretary of Guard, Traffic and Public Order, said the acquisition expands the resources available to agents and contributes to safety during incidents. He stressed that training will be essential to ensure technical and responsible use, respecting protocols and prioritizing the preservation of life.

The equipment delivery is part of broader efforts to structure the Municipal Civil Guard. Recently, the city also reinforced the force’s fleet with nine new vehicles, assigned to services including School Patrol, Maria da Penha Patrol, patrolling and traffic enforcement. The initiatives are intended to expand the Guard’s operational capacity and provide better working conditions for agents working in security, public protection and municipal order.
