A rock broke loose from a slope and partially blocked two roads in the São Sebastião housing complex in Mogi das Cruzes, Brazil, on Monday (2). Civil Defense recorded the incident on Avenida Francisco Ruiz and is monitoring the situation.
A section of Rua Professor José Veiga was also partially closed so the rock could be removed. The Municipal Department of Urban Services and Maintenance is expected to carry out the work, according to Civil Defense. The city’s Mobility and Traffic Department placed signs and marked the affected areas.
The incident occurred one day after heavy rain hit the Alto Tietê region, causing flooding, landslides and fallen trees in several cities. In Mogi das Cruzes, an intersection in the César de Sousa district was flooded, and water entered a resident’s home on Rua Catarina Carrera Marcatto, leaving mud and debris inside.
The city also received reports of fallen trees on Estrada do Taboão. Traffic and Mobility teams were called to signal the area and guide drivers. The flooding points reported in Mogi das Cruzes had returned to normal traffic conditions.
In Santa Isabel, the storm caused flooding on Rua Fernanda Maggi and landslides on Estrada do Monte Negro, near Vila Alpina, and on Rua Japão. Soil partially blocked vehicle access on Estrada do Monte Negro.
Civil Defense also identified erosion on Rodovia Arthur Matheus, about 500 meters after the entrance to Portal, in the direction of Rodovia Presidente Dutra. The erosion affected part of the shoulder and weakened the edge of the pavement near the guardrail. The São Paulo Department of Highways was contacted to assess the site.
Another incident occurred on Rua Hiroshima, where a house wall collapsed. Civil Defense said the intense rainfall may have contributed to the collapse. The resident also reported a possible water leak in a nearby alley.
