George Russell did not stay to celebrate Kimi Antonelli’s world championship victory. According to Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff, the British driver was devastated after the result and left the paddock shortly after congratulating his teammate.

Wolff said he would have been surprised if Russell had remained at the circuit given his emotional state. Russell’s absence also led to disciplinary action from the FIA, which fined him for failing to attend the mandatory meetings with the media.

Despite leaving early, Russell did congratulate Antonelli on securing the title before departing.
