While high-level officials from Africa and Russia gather for a summit focused on security, trade, and political cooperation, a critical issue is conspicuously missing from the official agenda: the recruitment of African nationals to fight for Russia in Ukraine. Reports indicate that more than 1,400 Africans have been enlisted for this conflict since 2023.

In Tunisia, growing concern has emerged among families of men who traveled to Russia under the pretense of seeking work or educational opportunities. These relatives are currently struggling to find information regarding the fate of their loved ones, who may now be involved in the war effort. Despite the scale of this recruitment and the distress it causes, the topic remains unaddressed during the diplomatic discussions between the two regions.
