Thousands of costumed revelers gathered in Manhattan’s Greenwich Village on Saturday, 31 October, for New York City’s 53rd Halloween parade. Skeletons, zombies and film characters filled the streets as participants danced through the neighborhood and spectators watched or joined the celebration.

Large skeleton and pumpkin puppets rose above the crowds, adding to the spectacle as the parade moved through the area. The event gave attendees an opportunity to adopt a different identity for the night and enjoy a sense of freedom.

Reveller Pete Rodriguez said the parade allowed people to express themselves and show what they liked. The annual event remains a popular New York Halloween tradition, bringing people together in costume on the streets of Manhattan.
